Backsplash. agh......

After I took pictures we headed to the tile store to pick out a back splash.......what a nightmare.  I have never used this granite before and had a hard time pulling a neutral option.  After some sweating an quiting (on my part) we found the perfect backsplash for the kitchen.

Here is what we came up with (my dad and I)  Oh and just a heads up don't listen to the guys who work at the tile store, ultimately Phil (the tile guy) lead us to the option we picked but what he says people normally choose, was horrible.

It's the perfect neutral marble that pics up pieces of the same color granite on the counter.  We were on our way out the door when we saw this and it is going to look perfect!!

Lets Play Catch up.........

I love this before and After.  Opening up the kitchen to the living area makes the space so much more appealing.

Who's up for a little before and after (or during I guess?)

Hey mom isnt that you favorite fake tree?  How did that get here? I thought I saw that in your bathroom the other day.

Durring.............

Before...... actually this is after we took the wall down bewteen the kitchn and the living area.  But you get the idea it was one solid wall when we stared. So you could not see into the kitchen.
During..........This opening brings  more natual light into the kitchn and opens up the floor plan a bit so the house is more open and airy. It also creates counter seating.

Before.............

During.....the kitchen without all the stuff that make a kitchen... Dark cabinets to come....

The other view into the dinning area.

Bedroom walls....Here is just one example of one of the rooms without the moldy peeling badly painted walls. The upstairs of this house gets amazing light!

 During.............

Before..................
This basement is getting a total makeover.

Here is a reminder of the before.  We added a wall to create a seprate storage room.
If you go through the back doorway of this room we are laying a slate tile floor in this part of the basement and adding carpet for the rest of the room.

Here are some pictures of the tile below. I could not step on it because it was wet.
This is the back hall the picture below is into the bathroom which I could not take photos of because as I said before the glue for the tile was wet. Oh and it's dirty so you can't see the color, I'm glad I took photos.  I guess I will have to save the before/after (during) picture of the basement bath for another day. (I'm sure you are on pins and needles)

Below are more basement photos.

Face Lift

After allot of interior work.....plumbing, electrical (bob thanks for making room for my sconce and letting make decisions), restructuring........We finally get to the part where it's fun to see progress aka floors ,paint, windows lets see where we are.

Before....................

Where we are now...............

Hello.......So much better.  The house finally gets light!! Those awnings along with the bushes kept pretty much every drop of natural light out of the house. I sat in the car tonight in fron tof the house for 30 minutes. Because my dad was late to meet me (surprise surprise) It actually worked out well it gave me a chance to look at the face of the house and come up with a plan. Click on the photo below to see what I came up with.
For the sake of giving him credit.  My dad did come up with the skim coating cement thing.

The early bird gets the .....what? What does it get?

On a morning when most people my age (which is still young) are sleeping off their hang overs from the night before. I got up early... really early . I am sitting outside of our new project waiting for my father and uncle to meet me here and talk plans.  It's snowing I'm cold and wishing I was in bed... actually kinda wishing for that hang over. Luckily while making a coffee run they showed up and  the house had a heater in it yessssssss

Here we are .....the mold is gone !this picture is the side entry that leads down to the basement or into the kitchen.
A shot of the kitchen. Reminder that little wall on the right is being taken out.
Here is the opening in the kitchen that will face the entry room below is a picture of what this wall will look like with cabinets.
the opening in this picture looks like a window.  It's not.
Here is the opposite wall. The sink wall.
Here is a picture of what it will look like (hopefully)
So when I fist stepped foot in the third floor of this house, I realized something was wrong.  The floors were slanted.  Badly.  So The guys jacked up the house and added a new support.  Right now the wood on the left is just temporary (I'm sure that's clear).  The slanted floors are gone that's for sure.
The large support on the ceiling helps keep the roof from caving in.
This beam looks important as well.  Looks like someone has a sense of humor.
Up we go
Bob and I discussed where the hall sconces and light switches go.

These bedroom pictures are.....redundant and boring.  I will spear you. Here is 1 of 3
Dad had some great ideas for the basement.  Here is the jest: Fake wall, blah blah blah, storage/hall way, blah bump out bathroom blah.
Here is an update on the basement bathroom.  Better eh?
